Why this drive to find unknown actors to play Superman? It must indicate the notion of celebrity is somehow tainted, a "known product" at odds with the utopian, god-like aura of the man of steel. Elsewhere I'm reading an essay about how most of the stars of Dallas possessed no previous credits and "sprung like Athena... full-blown onto a world unready for them." Today this reluctance to cast an established actor must reflect a problem with Hollywood. If it's not the dating life, the string of tabloid indiscretions, it must be the (leftist) politics. This is a roundabout way of wondering whether Michael Moore, et al, is to thank for rocketing Brandon Routh into the sky.
